The actress will be part of the Censor Board under the new chairman Prasoon Joshi

Vidya Balan, who has been inducted as a member of the reconstructed Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) under the chairmanship of Prasoon Joshi on Friday, said that she is looking forward to a new phase in her career. Vidya also tweeted that she was happy to join the CBFC and hoped to fulfil her responsibilities to the best of her abilities.

An excited Vidya tweeted, “I am very happy to join the CBFC and I hope to fulfill my responsibilities as a member to the best of my abilities. I look forward to this new and exciting phase where our cinema will be allowed to reflect the sensibilities, realities and complexities of the society we are living in today.”

Meanwhile, the Press Information Bureau said in a statement that the CBFC has been reconstituted for a period of three years or until further orders, whichever is earlier.

The entire film industry was surprised on Friday by the news that Pahlaj Nihalani had been sacked as chairman of the CBFC and that Prasoon Joshi had replaced him along with a group of new members. The new CBFC members include Gautami Tadimalla, Narendra Kohli, Naresh Chandra Lal, Neil Herbert Nongkynrih and Vivek Agnihotri, among others.
