Pahlaj Nihalani on Friday has been sacked from his post as the chief of Central Board of Film Certification. According to several reports doing the rounds, noted lyricist and screenplay writer Prasoon Joshi is all set to take charge as the new CBFC chief.
Nihalani’s two-year long tenure, which began after he replaced Leela Samson in January 2015, was marred by controversies. Recently, speculations were rife that Nihalani might be asked to step down, considering his refusal to certify a number of films, including Madhur Bhandarkar’s Indu Sarkar andAlankrita Shrivastava’s Lipstick Under My Burkha, to name a few.
Prasoon, who is a National Award-winning lyricist, has worked on films such as Taare Zameen Par, Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, and Neerja, among others. Reportedly, Vidya Balan has also come on board the CBFC as a member.
