The film is set during the Emergency in the 1970s

Filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar, who is known for his realistic cinema, is back with a historical drama, Indu Sarkar. He launched the film’s trailer this afternoon.

Indu Sarkar, which is set during the Emergency in the 1970s, stars Supriya Vinod as Indira Gandhi and Neil Nitin Mukesh as Sanjay Gandhi. Kirti Kulhari, who was seen in Pink last, plays a rebel poet with a pronounced stammer, who becomes a political activist and protests against both her husband (Tota Roy Chowdhury) and the Sanjay Gandhi regime. Anupam Kher plays an underground leader in the film, who becomes a catalyst for the much-needed political change.

The trailer opens with an announcement, Ab is desh me Gandhi ke mayne badal chuke hain. It goes on to depict the years when Prime Minister Indira Gandhi unilaterally declared a state of Emergency across the country.

Indu Sarkar will hit the big screen on July 28.
