A number of Bollywood stars attended the small but growing film festival Down Under

It was a Bollywood affair in Melbourne yesterday as the city played host to the Indian Film Festival Of Melbourne (IFFM). And in a sign of the festival’s growing popularity, some of the top stars of the Hindi film industry flew in to attend the event.

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Karan Johar, Sushant Singh Rajput and Konkona Sen Sharma won honours at the festival for their performances and contribution to the Indian film industry. Konkona, who gave a brave performance inLipstick Under my Burkha,was adjudged the Best Actress while Sushant won the Best Actor award forM.S. Dhoni – The Untold Story. Meanwhile, Karan Johar was awarded the Leadership in Cinema award and Aishwarya won a special mention with the Excellence in Global Cinema Award.

The star-studded night saw several performances and movie screenings. Among the others to win honours were Nitesh Tiwari, who got the Best Director award forDangal.The film along withBaahubali: The Conclusionwon the People’s Choice Award.Lipstick Under My Burkhaalso made it to the honours list.

The official IFFM, Trade Analyst Taran Adarsh and others like film critic Rajeev Masand tweeted several pictures andvideos from the festival.

The evening also saw Aishwarya and her daughter, Aaradhya, hoist the Indian national flag to commemorate India’s Independence Day onAugust 15.
